Acetabular Retroversion
This condition causes hip impingement because the hip socket is mal-oriented. Usually, the hip socket is pointed slightly forwards compared to the rest of your body. If the hip socket is pointed backwards, impingement in the front of your hip as well as instability in the back of your hip, can result.
If true acetabular retroversion is identified and nonoperative intervention is unsuccessful, surgical options may involve a PAO (pelvic osteotomy) to move the hip socket back into a more normal position.
